Full bio

Marc Graham grew up in Michigan as the youngest in a family of storytellers, which meant learning early how to make a story worth the interruption. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University and spent more than thirty years working as an engineer across Texas, Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, and Colorado, with a parallel life spent performing in musical theatre.

Marc’s fiction spans centuries and continents: from the court of the Queen of Sheba, to a Visigoth prince shipwrecked in the pre-Columbian Americas, to a Confederate soldier’s reckoning with the Civil War and the building of the American railroad, to an alternate American Revolution fought with steam and phlogiston. The connective thread across all of it is a simple conviction: history is written by the victors, and the truest stories are usually the ones nobody thought to record.

His nonfiction work, Runes for Writers, became a bestseller and the foundation of a creativity system used by writers to work through blocks and develop story. Marc’s fiction has been recognized by Backspace Writers, the National Writers Association, Pikes Peak Writers, and Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. He lives in Lisbon, Portugal, with his wife and their Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.
